RTNDF
awarded a $1,000 Mentor Grant for the 2008 San Diego Multicultural Journalism
Workshop. This is a free, two-week summer journalism workshop for high school
students. It is organized by San Diego’s news
media professionals and held at Point
Loma Nazarene
University. The Grant was given to the CCNMA Latino
Journalists of California (formerly the California Chicano News Media
Association).
Workshop
sponsors are the San Diego Union-Tribune, KNSD-TV (NBC 7/39), KPBS News Radio
based at San Diego State University, the Riverside Press-Enterprise and the San
Diego chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Lead
instructors are Janye McClinton, executive producer at NBC7/39 and Dwane Brown,
morning new anchor/editor at KPBS News Radio. Leonel Sanchez of the San Diego
Union-Tribune is the workshop director.
RTNDF’s
Grant Application Period for the 2008-09 school year will open in late November
2008. Grants will be awarded in March 2009.
The high school students' newscasts will be broadcast starting July 1.
